Vivalytics is a free widget that tracks KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) of your Google Analytics data.
Features
- Cross-platform PC and Mac
- Track multiple Google Analytics accounts and profiles
- Choose the KPIs that are important to you
- Set individual alerts and thresholds for each KPI you track
- Use filters to access the data you need
- Color-coded stats make it easy for you to spot good and bad trends
- Export all KPIs to csv, including those within your threshold alert level.
- Data is updated automatically every 24 hours or when you launch the widget
Requirements
Credits
- Eric Peterson's books on web analytics. Use the spreadsheet that comes with the "Big Book of Key Performance Indicators" to help you pick KPIs appropriate for your site.
Known issues
- On the PC platform you may see an alert box when you set up the widget about being re-directed to another web page. This is an annoyance as a result of how the widget engine handles a secure connection to the Google Analytics site and in no way compromises your privacy (see below).
- When you first set up alerts in the widget it may take a while for the widget to compile the data for you. Just have a cup of tea while you are waiting...
Privacy
- All data is exchanged directly between you and Google Analytics as though you were accessing Google Analytics with a browser. No data is sent to us in the background.
- The widget does not contain spyware, adware, malware.
This is an interesting app. Any chance of there being more comprehensive documentation? I've used Analytics regularly for a year or so, but I'm having trouble understanding how to use this widget. In Analytics, I tend to look at absolute quantities over a particular period (pageviews, uniques, visits, etc.), but all I seem to be able to see in VivAlytics are percentage changes from prior periods. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the tool but I'm also confused about the %-s. I am cross-referencing my GA account and not sure how the widget is calculating % week change for daily visitors, i.e. is the week defined as beginning Monday (avg daily since Monday) or is it the previous 7 days, likewise with Month. Neither number is giving me what I'm seeing in the Vivalytics widget.

Hello Brad!
You are absolutely right - the widget is designed to show you changes of your KPIs of interest - so it will show you how a particular KPI is doing this week compared to last week, and this month, compared to last month. Actually, to be absolutely exact, "Week" is the past 7 days (not including today) compared with the 7 days before that. (Same thing for "Month", but for 30 days)
The idea is to give you a quick picture every day of where you are - positive changes in green means you're definitely doing somehting right, whereas negative changes in read indicate an area where it might be worth putting more efforts.
Hope this helps!
Thanks!

Hello MoPho! Thank you for the comment!
The %-s are calculated with the very simple formula
(((current period's value) - (previous period's value)) / (current period's value) * 100)
So, in the "Daily Visitors" example, if you want to know how Vivalytics comes to the number you see, say, for "Week", go in GA (old interface), click on Marketing Optimization > Unique Visitor Tracking > Daily Visitors. The graph we're interested in is the first one at the top.
So, take the "Average" value displayed at the top of the graph for the past week ending yesterday (the default range in GA) and the average for the range May 5th - May 11th (the 7 days before the dault range). Use these values in teh formula given above and it should give you the % you see in teh widget.
Now, GA has just released a new interface - we are actively working on a new version of the widget to support it. Mind you the widget still works, becuase the old UI is still available in teh background, but it might not be as obvious where the values come from. In the new interface, you would have to manually calculate averages for each date range (they wouldn't be given to you) using the Visitors > Visitor Trending > Visits report, for instance...
Hope this helps!
Thanks!
